The creation of beat trax is an art that has a very clear lineage from Ron Hardy's reel-to-reel tape exercises, through Mr. Fingers and Model 500, to recent work like the Decius records, Paranoid London and, now, this EP from Omaar. A good beat track (or rhythm track) has only the necessary elements, the art is the way in which they are deployed. On Omaar's EP we also have a monstrous Detroit-style electro track and an Aaliyah edit that every good dj needs on his USB.
